Loan

The loan service is available exclusively to certain user categories, i.e. students, Erasmus students, PhD students, specialising students, research fellows, researchers and Politecnico staff with a university card.

To access the service you must browse the catalogue to find your item and make a request, providing the appointed staff with the item's inventory number and location.

When requesting, you must show the staff your magnetic university card or a valid identification document. Newly enrolled students who do not yet have university documents can show an identification document and their matriculation number.

When a book is loaned, a receipt is issued, signed by the loaner, and kept in the library. Users are given a card with the date the item is to be returned. The card is to be used for all returns and renewal operations. Users must store the card in a safe place - once signed by library staff, it is proof the items have been returned.

Items on loan must, out of respect for all users, be treated with the care and attention given to other people's property.

Loan procedures

The Carta dei Servizi [service charter] lists the procedures for the loan of items in order to improve the relationship between users and the Politecnico's university library system. It shows the university's commitment to ensuring quality services and includes improvement projects. Users are expected to know about (and comply with) this document that is available in the libraries and on the web site of the university library system. The Carta dei Servizi [service charter] is periodically updated.

Below is a summary of the procedures for loans from the Biblioteca Didattica in the Cremona Campus, coherently with the Carta dei Servizi.

Duration of loan: 29 days. You can have up to 5 items on loan at the same time from all the libraries of the SBA.

Due date warning (via e-mail sent to the university e-mail address provided by the Politecnico to all registered students): users receive a library notice e-mail three days before expiry. The e-mail is a reminder to return the item or renew it.

Item overdue warning (via e-mail sent to the university e-mail address provided by the Politecnico to all registered students): the day after the due date, users will receive a reminder e-mail, urging them to return the item. Two days after the due date another reminder will be sent, followed by a third e-mail four days after the due date, informing the user that he/she will not be allowed to loan any more items from any library in the university library system. Users who are four days overdue will not be able to loan any more books, request or book items. They will not be allowed to use library services for a period of time proportional to the days they are overdue.

  • Number of days overdue: from 4 to n days
  • Number of days of suspension: 20 days + n days overdue

Examples:

  • 10 days overdue: 30 days suspension (20 + 10 = 30)
  • 40 days overdue: 60 days suspension (20 + 40 = 60)

The reminder e-mail is an accessory service. Not receiving the reminder is not an acceptable excuse for failing to return items on time.
You can check your loan status (and the return date as well) from your personal area, which can be accessed from the online catalogue (OPAC) by clicking on the "Servizi" [services] icon.

You can have up to 5 items on loan at the same time from all the libraries of the SBA.

Penalty for losing an item on loan: the book must be replaced or, if no longer in print, replaced with another book of the same value identified by the librarian (the University reserves the right to take further administrative action).

You can return and/or renew items during library opening hours as well.
