2013 Pretest

The course for preparation to the Engineering admission test

Would you like to enrol in one of the Politecnico's Engineering Degrees (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) but are you afraid you will not be able to pass the test?

Every year, the Cremona Campus of the Politecnico di Milano organises courses to help prospective students prepare for the admission test and start their university career without additional educational obligations.

The main subjects of the course are mathematics, physics and English.

The section of Logic, Mathematics and Statistics - which weighs most on the final score - is the section students are most afraid of. The physics section is often a problem because not all schools hold enough physics classes for last-year students. Help for English is often very useful too.

At the beginning of the course the Politecnico will offer students the POLItest - Il test di Ingegneria al Politecnico di Milano booklet that contains the learning material for the mathematics, physics and verbal comprehension sections of the test.

The 2013 Prestest meetings, held by Politecnico professors, were held from Tuesday 20 August to Wednesday 28 August. Specifically:

  • physics section: Tuesday 20 August, Wednesday 21 August and Thursday 22 August from 9.00 to13.00;
  • English section: Tuesday 20 August, Wednesday 21 August and Friday 23 August from 14.00 to 17.00;
  • mathematics section: Thursday 22 August from 14.00 to 17.00, Friday 23 August, Monday 26 August and Tuesday 27 August from 9.00 to 13.00;
  • test simulation: Wednesday 28 August from 9.30 to 12 noon;
  • correction of the test: Wednesday 28 August from 14.00 to 16.00.

You can have a detailed display of the subjects the professors spoke of each day clicking here.

The Test on Line sessions were held on Thursday 29 August, Friday 30 August, Monday 2 September and Tuesday 3 September.

Passing the TOL is mandatory for enrolment. You must answer 65 multiple choice questions that aim at checking you a have good knowledge of basic mathematics and physics, have an aptitude for logical-abstract reasoning and know enough English. To pass the test your score must be no less than 60/100.

To avoid starting your engineering studies with OFA [additional educational obligations] you must pass the test. If your score is below the minimum you may still be able to enrol as long as you are high enough in the student ranking list for admission. A ranking list for the remaining available places will be created after the students who passed TOL in the early sessions (from March to July) complete matriculation between 17 and 23 July 2013.
OFA TEST, OFA TENG and OFA TOL will have to be discharged in one of the free online sessions scheduled from October onwards. Students with OFA Test and OFA TOL cannot sit exams (or tests during courses) or submit an independent Study Plan.

This year (like in the previous years), students in the campus provided aspiring engineers with an information area in which to share their university experience and supply extra learning material about the various courses, offering a useful guide on the Politecnico world. The service was available from 15 July to 23 August 2013, Mondays to Fridays from 9 to 12 noon and Wednesdays from 9.00 to 4.30 pm, with the exception of Campus closure days (12 to 16 August 2013)
