Cybersecurity as the basis for competitiveness in business

Digital transformation has made companies more connected, faster and more efficient, but also more exposed to the risks and vulnerabilities that can compromise processes, data and business continuity. Cybersecurity is no longer a technical aspect that is just for specialists: it is a strategic factor that affects every organisation, regardless of their size or their field of production.

Keeping a company safe involves knowing how to prevent, recognise and manage cyber threats through the well-informed use of technologies, and being able to react quickly and effectively as an organisation. The new European regulations make this process even more urgent, by asking companies and industrial concerns to adopt structured procedures, based on governance, risk management, and coordinated methods of response.

Objective

The seminar aims to offer both professionals and students who are interested in cybersecurity a clear, cohesive vision of the main security challenges within companies. The aim is to develop the skills needed for analysing risks, for understanding the new European regulations, and for applying integrated strategies designed to prevent, detect and respond to incidents.

Content

The seminar includes an examination of the cybersecurity requirements for businesses and industries, with a focus on the NIS2 Directive and its Italian transposition. Governance, risk assessment, prevention, detection, incident response and recovery will all be discussed, highlighting how risk analysis should guide controls and investments and how integrating these aspects will ensure full compliance and protect the company's business area.

Who is it intended for?

The seminar is aimed at professionals, technicians and company personnel involved in cybersecurity management, as well as students who wish to broaden their skills in this field and prepare for work in real organisational settings.

It is designed both for those who already work in the sector and want to update their knowledge of NIS2 and security best practices, and for those who want to develop a more robust and methodological approach to protecting company systems.

Supervisor

Stefano Longari is a researcher at the Politecnico di Milano, from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering. He completed his PhD in Information Engineering in 2021, with a thesis on security in the automotive sector and transport systems. He then extended his research to examine contexts where cybersecurity interrelates with the physical world, exploring cyber-physical systems, social engineering, and their interaction with cybersecurity. Stefano has conducted classes at master's level in Business Management and has acted as a teaching assistant on various security courses at the Politecnico di Milano, as well as previously teaching a course in Social Engineering at Bocconi University. He teaches a master's course for the Politecnico di Milano and for Bocconi University entitled "Human and Physical Aspects of Security," which examines threats to computer systems that originate from the physical and social worlds. Stefano is the author of several scientific articles published at conferences and in international journals and has been a participant and invited speaker at various national and international conferences.
